The original urban design – designed in 1922 by English urban planners Cackett & Burns of Newcastle, England – has undergone several changes since its first version, while remaining the main reference for the development of the Quinta. The initial project, commissioned by Carlos Montez Champalimaud in 1920, confirmed the region’s future potential and proved to be decisive for the acquisition of the Quinta by the entrepreneur, who, at that time, foresaw with perspicacity all the tourism and real estate potential of the site. Later, in the 1970s, the Quinta was divided into four companies: Guia, Raso, Abano and Euronova.

Quinta da Marinha is located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and is known for its excellent views of the Atlantic Ocean and Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Portugal and Europe.

The white sandy beaches with their unmistakable dunes of Cresmina and Guincho are among the best stages for bathing. The blue ocean also has some of the best characteristics and waves for surfing and other water sports.

Here you have the best restaurants in Cascais, and Portugal, including sophisticated shellfish restaurants with excellent views of the coast. Near the Quinta are more to offer, with commercial areas such as design shops and even independent art galleries. It also has restaurants and pastry shops with inviting terraces facing the Atlantic Ocean. Further on there is the Fort of São Jorge de Oitavos which has a permanent exhibition of military uniforms.

Aldeamento Marinha Freixos is part of the beginning of Quinta da Marinha’s history which dates back to the end of the 19th century. It began in the 20’s of the last century with the purchase of Quinta da Marinha from the Count of Moser by Carlos Montez Champalimaud, a doctor-surgeon and businessman. With a broad and bold vision of the future, Carlos Montez Champalimaud foresaw the high urban potential of that location, then inhospitable, sandy and almost desert territory.

For more than 80 years, and simultaneously with the beginning of the Quinta’s infrastructure, the dunes were fixed and the whole area was conserved and afforested, transforming what was inhospitable and, almost desert, into a place well known for its landscape characteristics.

The first part of the property to be developed, from the beginning of 1980, was the area of the Quinta located to the Southeast, which currently includes an 18-hole golf course – designed by Robert Trent Jones, a Hotel, a residential area, a Tourist Village and the Marinha Freixos Condominium.
