MARINHA FREIXOS

ALDEAMENTO MARINHA FREIXOS
QUINTA DA MARINHA, CASCAIS

The Marinha Freixos Condominium is located in Southeast Quinta da Marinha. Considered by many as the Portuguese Riviera, Quinta da Marinha has always been chosen not only for its location near the Capital of Portugal and Historical Sintra (destination of choice for holidays for the former Portuguese Royalty), but also for its geographical location in the triangle Cascais, Lisbon, Sintra as the most exclusive area of Portugal. Its safety and lifestyle are determining factors for this choice, by the most diverse personalities and celebrities from Portugal and several other countries.

Aldeamento Marinha Freixos is part of the beginning of Quinta da Marinha’s history which dates back to the end of the 19th century. It began in the 20’s of the last century with the purchase of Quinta da Marinha from the Count of Moser by Carlos Montez Champalimaud, a doctor-surgeon and businessman. With a broad and bold vision of the future, Carlos Montez Champalimaud foresaw the high urban potential of that location, then inhospitable, sandy and almost desert territory.

For more than 80 years, and simultaneously with the beginning of the Quinta’s infrastructure, the dunes were fixed and the whole area was conserved and afforested, transforming what was inhospitable and, almost desert, into a place well known for its landscape characteristics.

The first part of the property to be developed, from the beginning of 1980, was the area of the Quinta located to the Southeast, which currently includes an 18-hole golf course – designed by Robert Trent Jones, a Hotel, a residential area, a Tourist Village and the Marinha Freixos Condominium.

The original urban design was conceived in 1922 by English urban architects Cackett & Burns of Newcastle, England.
